The Coleman-Demming route offers a classic voyage to the summit via the west side of Mount Baker. The route weaves through large crevassed glaciers, around active icefalls and finishes up the imposing 40° Roman Headwall guarding the summit. Our journey begins with an approach through ancient forests to the toe of the Coleman glacier and our basecamp. The summit attempt will launch from here and for those with no prior mountaineering training we will take an additional day and use this as our classroom to learn the necessary skills to climb safely. Skills including self and team arrest, cramponing techniques and rope-travel. After our summit attempt we will return to camp for an early night of much deserved rest before a casual descent the following day.
