What if I need to change my booking unexpectedly? Should I get travel insurance?
Please review our policies with regard to personal and weather related alterations to your booking. Planning for the unexpected is a critical part of adventure logistics. We highly recommend you pursue an independent travel insurance policy for every program with us to ensure that expenses are covered in the event of trip interruption, cancellation or alteration and that any medical and/or rescue expenses are covered. Travel Insurance with rescue, medical and evacuation coverage is required for all of our international programs. Below are our partner providers.
- Global Rescue is the leader in the industry with membership programs tailored to fit your program length and travelling frequency. Memberships can be paired with travel polices for the most robust coverage. Global Rescue is our recommendation for International programs.
- Travelex offers robust and purpose-focused travel insurance for a broad range of activities and is a good option for domestic programs. It also pairs well with the Global Rescue Medical Evacuation membership as a more budget friendly travel insurance compliment for all destinations.
How far in advance should I book my adventure?
We are typically booked several months out for local northeast programs and often well over a year out for international programs. We encourage you to book the dates and programs you prefer well in advance, particularly if you are interested in a holiday or weekend adventure locally. We know it is tempting to wait for the perfect forecast, but we will likely be unable to accommodate you with such short notice.
When and where will we meet?
For our Northeast programs the day typically begins at 8AM and wraps at 3PM for a full day in the mountains. The timing will vary depending on conditions and objective, particularly if it is a multi-day program or involves considerable drive times. Meeting location is at the headquarters of our partner, International Mountain Climbing School or a spot close to the program site with cell phone service to ensure that all parties are able to connect. Your guide will be in touch prior to your adventure to confirm meeting time and location. For domestic programs outside of the northeast and international programs meeting location and logistics will be specified in your onboarding material.
What are the lodging options for NH based programs?
We recommend the Cranmore Mountain Lodge, a locally owned option with quality amenities and convenient access to downtown North Conway. Use code: CML-IME for 10% off when booking on their website. In addition to CML their are many options to cover a wide range of lodging preferences including local Inns, hotels, hostels and AirBnb/STR. We recommend you book well in advance, as your program will likely be peak season and options fill-up very quickly. Please support local businesses if you can!
What equipment and gear do I need?
All group and technical climbing gear is included in the cost of your adventure for northeast programs with the exception backcountry ski touring equipment. Please refer to our Gear Lists and Resources Page for a specific list of what equipment is available to our guests for no additional charge.
- Ski Touring Equipment:

How should I pack and what do I need for clothing?
Check-out our Gear Lists and Resources Page. There you will find all the resources necessary to outfit yourself and come prepared for your adventure. We encourage you to plan ahead and make any necessary rentals or purchases well before your program start date. Generally speaking there are a few good rules to follow:
- Synthetic and wool – no cotton
- Use layering systems – i.e. base-layer, light insulation, medium insulation, shell, parka (no “do-it-all” jacket)
- Don’t stress! We’re here to help. Reach out anytime before your program.
